World-Renowned Dr. Catena Discusses Medical Experiences in the Sudan

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Dec. 11, 2014) – Dr. Tom Catena, medical director and sole physician at Mother of Mercy Hospital in the Nuba Mountain region of the Sudan, discussed his adventures in the war-stricken country Thursday morning at Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Dr. Catena is the brother of Cor Catena, CEO of Commonwealth Health. Tom Catena has been working as a missionary doctor since 1999 and has been working in the Sudan since 2007 where he treats everything from malaria and leprosy to brain surgery and injuries caused by bombings. Earlier this week, Dr. Catena was honored as a co-recipient with George Weiss of the National Football Foundation Gold Medal. Dr. Catena was an honorable mention All-American and All-Ivy League nose guard at Brown University while becoming a Rhodes Scholar candidate.
Dr. Catena addresses a group of health care professionals and medical college students at Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
