Brittany Shaffer, RN Receives Berwick Hospital Center’s Nursing Excellence Award
10/30/2020
Commonwealth Health Berwick Hospital Center announced that Brittany Shaffer, RN has been selected to receive its Nursing Excellence Award.
This peer-nominated award, created in honor of 2020 being the “Year of the Nurse,” and in recognition of the critical role nurses have played in treating patients throughout the COVID pandemic, was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence.
Brittany was chosen for her outstanding contributions in compassionate care for her patients. She was recognized for the care she gave to a patient who had COVID and the daily communication given to the patient’s son regarding his parent’s medical progress.
“It’s an honor to be part of a facility with so many amazing nurses like Brittany who come to work and care so passionately for the community,” said Michael Herr, interim CEO. “Berwick Hospital Center is pleased to recognize the important contributions our nurses make every day. We are focused on being a compassionate, patient-centered facility and our nurses carry out that mission with pride.”
Brittany joined Berwick Hospital Center in March 2016 and in that time has cross-trained in the ICU and ER to help with increased volumes.
In addition to receiving the Nursing Excellence Award itself, Brittany received a cash prize and the Florence Nightingale’s 1859 quintessential book on nursing, which remains relevant in today’s modern nursing attitudes and skills.
