Commonwealth Health will Transition Tunkhannock ER Services

TUNKHANNOCK, Pa., Monday, May 2, 2022 – Commonwealth Health today announced its Tunkhannock ER will cease emergency department services effective July 1, 2022. Healthcare resources to help people get well and live healthier will remain in Tunkhannock with services the community has demonstrated it will use such as primary care and occupational medicine.
Commonwealth Health Physician Network’s primary care office in Tunkhannock will remain open. Other services that will continue in Tunkhannock include Commonwealth Health Physician Network specialty offices for general surgery, OB/GYN and orthopedics.
“Providing healthcare services that reflect the level of care the community is currently using is our priority,” says Michael Curran, chief executive officer of Moses Taylor Hospital and Regional Hospital of Scranton. “We want to help the Tunkhannock community get well and live healthier.”
Commonwealth Health Emergency Medical Services (CHEMS) will continue to station an ambulance on site 24/7 for timely response to emergencies and facilitating any needed transfers. Acute inpatient, surgery and emergency care are available at Moses Taylor Hospital, Regional Hospital of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
