Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Honors Physicians with Donation to Sleep In Heavenly Peace in Recognition of National Doctors’ Day
3/28/2025
Wilkes-Barre, PA – In celebration of National Doctors’ Day on March 30th, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital is showing appreciation for its dedicated physicians by donating $6,000 to Sleep In Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit organization that builds and delivers beds, along with mattresses and bedding, to children in need.
National Doctors’ Day is a special occasion to recognize and thank doctors for their unwavering compassion and commitment to improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities. It serves as a time to honor their tireless efforts and heroic contributions, especially during challenging times.
This year, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital’s physicians made a collective decision to give back to the community in a meaningful way. Rather than receiving gifts from the hospital to mark Doctors' Day, the hospital’s physicians chose to direct the funds toward a cause close to their hearts. After careful consideration, the physicians voted to support Sleep In Heavenly Peace, an organization dedicated to ensuring that every child has a safe and comfortable place to sleep.
"We are deeply grateful for the dedication and service of our physicians, and we are thrilled that they have chosen to celebrate Doctors' Day by making such a generous contribution to Sleep In Heavenly Peace," said Chris Howe, CEO of Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. "This donation reflects the compassion that our doctors demonstrate every day, both in their professional care for patients and in their commitment to giving back to the community."
Sleep In Heavenly Peace works tirelessly to build and deliver beds to children aged 3 to 17 who are facing difficult living conditions, often lacking a proper place to sleep. This donation will help the organization continue its mission to provide safe, comfortable beds and bedding to local children in need.
National Doctors’ Day serves as a reminder of the invaluable contributions that physicians make to the health of individuals and communities. At Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, this day of recognition highlights the hospital’s ongoing commitment to not only patient care but also to supporting organizations that make a positive impact in the community.
