Commonwelath Health Emergency Medical Services Receives Accreditation

Commonwealth Health Emergency Medical Services (CHEMS) is pleased to announce that it has become accredited as an Emergency Medical Services Educational Institute by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

As an official training institute, CHEMS will offer education in Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT). These classes are designed to prepare individuals to provide life-saving treatment to those who are injured or acutely ill. The classes will be offered at CHEMS’ Training Center, Keyser Avenue, Scranton, PA. The students will also receive clinical training at facilities within the Commonwealth Health network and will gain field experience on ambulances under the direct supervision of paramedics from CHEMS. Upon completion of all requirements, students will be eligible to take the National Registry Examination for Pennsylvania EMS Certification.

CHEMS is the largest provider of emergency medical services in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It offers a wide variety of services, including wheelchair vans, basic life support (BLS), advanced life support (ALS) and critical care services under the medical direction of Dr. Kirk Hinkley. CHEMS is also active in providing community public health education and CPR training at health fairs, schools, private employers, and various community groups. CHEMS currently serves the citizens of Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne, and Wyoming counties. They employ approximately 250 individuals who staff over 55 ambulances and vehicles.
