Commonwealth Health Physician Network Welcomes Temple University Hospital’s Vice Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery
Cardiothoracic Surgeon Robert S. Boova, M.D., has joined Commonwealth Health Physician Network and is a member of the medical staff at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Dr. Boova was previously the vice chair of cardiac surgery and clinical professor for Temple University Hospital and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Temple University. Formerly, Dr. Boova was clinical professor of surgery at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, and previously the chief of cardiac surgery for Main Line Health System Hospitals in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Boova's areas of knowledge include structural heart disease, catheter-based treatment of structural heart disease, mitral valve repair, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, myocardial revascularization utilizing off pump beating heart techniques, diseases of the thoracic aorta, surgical treatment of carcinoid heart disease, surgical treatment of endocarditis, and cardiac surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation. Additionally, Dr. Boova has extensive experience with quality metrics in cardiac surgery, evidence based cardiac care, and accelerated post-operative recovery.
Dr. Boova has authored and co-authored numerous cardiac manuscripts and abstracts. He has lectured extensively and has been an invited speaker locally, nationally and internationally. He has been an investigator and principal investigator in clinical trials, including the U.S. Pivotal Core Valve TAVR trial.

Dr. Boova received his Doctorate of Medicine from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His surgery residency and cardiac surgery fellowship were completed at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He has a master's degree in health care management from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
