Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Welcomes Penn State Hershey Medical Center Leader to Serve as Chief Medical Officer

Jennifer P. Goldstein, M.D., brings decades of experience as a practicing physician, medical staff leader and physician educator
Wilkes-Barre, PA, March 2021 – Commonwealth Health is pleased to announce Jennifer Price Goldstein, M.D., FACP as its new chief medical officer and member of the leadership team at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Prior to joining Commonwealth Health, Dr. Goldstein was chief medical officer and medical director patient logistics, utilization management and care coordination at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. In this role, Dr. Goldstein was responsible for all clinical, administrative, research and programmatic support for the medical staff.
Dr. Goldstein is recognized as a respected clinician, teacher and leader where she has championed her fellow physicians and worked to optimize clinical processes to support providers in delivering safe, quality care. She first joined Hershey as a medical resident and subsequently joined the medical staff and the faculty of Penn State University College of Medicine, taking on additional leadership positions throughout her tenure. These leadership roles include acting chief medical officer, associate chief medical officer, medical director patient logistics, utilization management and care coordination at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, as well as associate program director for the internal medicine residency program and chief resident for the internal medicine residency program.
Dr. Goldstein’s leadership in coordinating care across the continuum of healthcare settings to reduce readmissions has been nationally recognized. Additionally, she is a noted leader in patient throughput and with initiatives to reduce central line associated bloodstream infection and other safety measures.
Among numerous recognitions from her colleagues, she has been honored as a COVID hero for the department of medicine and with the Inspired Award for Excellence for her work in developing Ebola Team response.

Dr. Goldstein brings twenty years of experience and will focus on engaging and partnering with department managers, clinical service chiefs, medical directors, and the senior leadership team to improve processes and implement solutions that focus on collaboration. Dr. Goldstein commented, “I am very excited to join an organization focused on bringing together the top care providers in the local community to deliver quality care in a coordinated network.”
Dr. Goldstein attended medical school at Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Goldstein completed her residency at Hershey Medical Center and was honored to be selected as the chief resident.
