Volunteers Shed Light on Importance of Routine Colon Screening

Volunteers Shed Light on Importance of Routine Colon Screening

4/16/2017

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (April 17, 2017) -- Employees of Commonwealth Health scheduled 63 colonoscopies as the result of the health care network’s inaugural “Don’t Be the 1 in 3” campaign to raise awareness about the importance of routine colon screening. Volunteers at three locations made 2,479 calls to patients ages 50 and older to encourage them to schedule a colonoscopy. The “Don’t Be the 1 in 3” campaign is based on the estimate that one in three persons is not up to date with a recommended colonoscopy schedule. The volunteers made calls from three locations during a three-hour period on March 30. Volunteers from Berwick Hospital Center are, from left: Whitney Holloway, chief financial officer; Diane Ljungquist, CEO; Aimee Morris, executive secretary; John Motsney, lab manager; Denise Kolojejchick, chief nursing officer; Julie Brislin, administrator, Berwick Retirement Village, and Linda Makowski, director, health information management.
