Commonwealth Health Scranton Hospitals Light Up for Heart Health
2/2/2017

SCRANTON, Pa. (Feb. 3, 2017) – Commonwealth Health hospitals in Scranton are shedding some light on heart health – red light, that is.
The bridges that cross Quincy Avenue and Jefferson Avenue on the property of Moses Taylor Hospital and Regional Hospital of Scranton, respectively, are adorned with red LED lights this month, National Heart Month.
The lighting coincides with a schedule of month-long activities designed to promote awareness to heart disease, the No. 1 killer among men and women, and to encourage people of all ages to make heart-healthy lifestyle choices.
Commonwealth Health is the major sponsor of the American Heart Association’s Heart Ball 2017 at which time CEO Cor Catena will be honored.
Throughout February, hospital employees will conduct fundraisers to benefit the American Heart Association. All babies born this month will receive hand-knitted, red hats made by volunteers and donated by the American Heart Association through a program called Little Hats Big Hearts.
Other planned events:
- First in the Nation celebration of Regional Hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab’s distinction as the first in the nation to be accredited by the American College of Cardiology.
- Educational Community Event, Feb. 28, 6 p.m., presented by the Commonwealth Health Heart & Vascular Institute, 1st floor, General Services Building, Large McGowan Conference Room. Topics are: “Introduction of the Commonwealth Heart & Vascular Institute,” and “TAVR,” or transcatheter aortic valve replacement, a minimally invasive procedure for replacing a valve.
- Celebrity Bartending Event to benefit the AHA featuring Justin Davis, CEO of Regional Hospital and Moses Taylor Hospital; Dr. David FitzPatrick, cardiologist, and Chris Howe, assistant CEO, Regional Hospital.
