8/24/2014
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Aug. 25, 2014) – Young men and women ages 14 to 20 who are interested in a career in health care are invited to join Health Explorer Post 575 sponsored by Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Medical Exploring is part of Learning for Life, a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America.
Members of Post 575 meet once a month at the hospital and visit with health care professionals and at locations that offer them a clearer picture of medical-related career fields. Previous groups have visited medical, nursing and anesthesiology schools; dentists and veterinarians; specialty clinics such as sleep or wound centers and eye clinics, and have toured hospital departments including radiology, the operating room, emergency department and pharmacy.
The program is overseen by an advisory committee composed of volunteers.
The registration fee is $25 for the school year. Hospital requirements include proof of immunizations, documentation of recent tuberculosis tests or hospital-administered testing. Medical explorers receive a hospital-issued photo ID badge.
