Lee G. SaltzgaberWILKES-BARRE, PA (July 3, 2014) – Lee G. Saltzgaber, M.D., has been named chief medical officer at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Dr. Saltzgaber comes to Wilkes-Barre from Greater Rome Affiliates in Rome, N.Y., where he was chief medical officer and medical director. He also worked at Holzer Health System in Gallipolis, Ohio, and was medical director and associate administrator at StayWell Insurance, Hagatna, Guam. He replaces Dr. Douglas Coslett, who served as interim chief medical officer upon the retirement of Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy.

A veteran of the Army and Air Force, Lee served as medic, battalion commander and personnel officer before starting medical school in 1988. He then served as a practicing physician and physician executive in the military in both Japan and the United States.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences at Bethesda, Md. Dr. Saltzgaber earned a master of public health degree from the University of Texas School of Public Health and completed residencies in preventive medicine and aerospace medicine at the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine in San Antonio, Texas. He earned a master of medical management degree from the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
