10/5/2016

Ricardo HornKINGSTON, Pa. (Oct. 6, 2016) -- Commonwealth Health will present a free community lecture on mindfulness-based therapy at 6 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Thomas P. Saxton Medical Pavilion, 468 Northampton St., Edwardsville. "Mindfulness in Behavioral Health: Living in the Now," will be presented by Ricardo Horn as part of the First Hospital community lecture series.

Mindfulness-based therapy is one of the fastest evolving treatment approaches in psychology and related fields. This program will help clinicians treat psychiatric, substance abuse, and medical conditions, as well as foster health and wellness. The program will focus on the positive impact of mindfulness strategies for patients in clinical settings, and also, how it can decrease staff burnout and stress. Participants will learn to practice mindful breathing, body scan, meditation, and other helpful techniques.

Horn is a graduate of Marywood University and James Madison University. He holds a master's degree in social work and received mindfulness training at Jefferson University Hospital’s Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine. He has practiced mindfulness for 10 years.

Light refreshments will be served. To RSVP, call 570-552-3939 or email MMarriggi@commonwealthhealth.net.
