New Pediatric Center of Excellence Opens at Moses Taylor Hospital
12/30/2013
SCRANTON, PA – Fulfilling its promise to strengthen medical resources for children in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Commonwealth Health today officially launched its Pediatric Center of Excellence at Moses Taylor Hospital.
As part of its agreement with Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital (PSCH), PSHCH pediatric hospitalists—physicians who specialize in the care of acutely ill infants, children and adolescents—will provide 24/7 coverage in Moses Taylor’s pediatrics unit.
Moses Taylor Hospital Pediatrics Chairman Dr. Stanley Blondek praised the plan and said the expertise of PSHCH is a welcome addition to the high-level care Moses Taylor already provides.
“Penn State Hershey is recognized for its world-class pediatric care, and Moses Taylor has a long tradition of excellence in women’s and children’s services,” says Dr. Blondek. “Families throughout our region will certainly benefit from the collaboration of these two respected institutions.”
Beginning this month, PSHCH pediatric hospitalists will work closely with primary care physicians to provide the best possible care for children hospitalized at Moses Taylor, and to offer expert consulting with the hospital’s Emergency Department when necessary.
“This is an important step forward in the evolution of pediatric care for our region,” says Moses Taylor Hospital CEO Justin Davis. “This new Center of Excellence and our relationship with Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital clearly demonstrate Commonwealth Health’s commitment to offer superior care to our communities.”
The PSHCH pediatric hospitalists are Medical Director Mikhail Mirer, MD; Terry Gubitosi, MD; Thomas J. Martin, MD.; and Tanya Kumaria, MD.
