Regional Hospital Hosts Free Robot Day for Public
11/11/2014
SCRANTON, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2014) – Robot Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at Regional Hospital of Scranton, 746 Jefferson Avenue.
The event is open to the public free of charge and will be held in the second floor hallway of the hospital.
The hospital will display its newest robot which is used by physicians in an increasing number of surgical procedures. Visitors who are interested in learning more about robotic-assisted surgery may get an up-close look at the device and discuss the benefits with surgeons who are on staff at Regional Hospital.
Regional was the first hospital in the region to perform robotic-assisted surgery and recently acquired a new device that expanded its program, allowing physicians to perform additional types of minimally invasive operations.
The new robot uses advanced, robotic, computer and optical technologies to offer patients faster recovery time, minimal scarring and pain, less trauma on the body, low blood loss and a shorter hospital stay. The new equipment is being used to perform gynecologic, urologic, and general surgery and has the capacity to support weight loss and thoracic surgeries as well. This approach to surgery allows physicians to perform complex surgical procedures through small incisions. The robot does not act on its own and its movements are controlled by the surgeon.
Light refreshments will be served.
