4/28/2016
TUNKHANNOCK, Pa. (April 29, 2016) -- Commonwealth Health Tyler Memorial Hospital, with support from The Wyoming County Community Health Foundation, is holding a shingles clinic from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 in the infection control office, second floor of the hospital, 5950 State Route 6, Tunkhannock.
Persons age 60 and older who are uninsured or underinsured are welcome. Vaccine quantities are limited. Appointments are recommended and may be made by calling Donna Guman, R.N., at 570-996-1266.
The shingles vaccine, Zostavax, is recommended for people age 60 and older, regardless of whether they have had shingles. Shingles occurs when the virus that causes chicken pox becomes active again. The shingles vaccine is a live vaccine given as a single injection, usually in the upper arm.
“Some insurers do not cover the cost of this vaccine,” Raleigh Bloch, president of the Wyoming County Community Health Foundation, said. “So, we are pleased to collaborate with Tyler in providing this important immunization service to our community.”
The foundation identifies, selects and invests in programs and organizations that aim to improve the health and wellness of people in Wyoming County and surrounding communities.
