Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Announces Childbirth Education Schedule

WILKES-BARRE, PA (May 2, 2014) – Registration is being accepted for Childbirth Education Classes at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Topics include childbirth education, breastfeeding, babysitting and sibling class.

Childbirth Education, a series for the mother-to-be and support persons, an overview of labor and birth, pain relief methods, Cesarean section information, newborn care and hospital policies and procedures. Each series is offered 1-3:30 p.m. Sunday and 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. Series 4, May 18-June 18; Series 5, July 27-Aug. 27.

Childbirth Refresher, 6-8 p.m. June 23.

Breastfeeding Basics, 6-8 p.m. June 25 and Sept. 3.

Babysitting, June 26, designed for teens ages 13-15 who are interested in learning how to safely care for an infant or young child.

Sibling Class, 1-2 p.m. June 8 and Aug. 17, designed to promote family bonding and decrease anxiety siblings may feel with the arrival of a newborn. Children will learn how to properly hold a newborn and will receive a tour of the obstetric suites. Recommended for children ages 3-12.

Prenatal and Postnatal Fitness Classes, a five-week series offered on Thursdays, May 22-June 19 and July 31-Aug. 28. Prenatal, 6-7 p.m.; postnatal, 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Sibling class is held in Lois Knaub Hall, Level B2, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, 575 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre. All other classes are held at the Thomas P. Saxton Medical Pavilion, 468 Northampton St., Suite 10, Edwardsville. For more information, call 570-552-3416.
