Commonwealth Health Hosts Child Safety Day
6/9/2016
SCRANTON, Pa. (June 10, 2016) – Commonwealth Health Emergency Medical Services and Moses Taylor Hospital will host a Child Safety Day from noon to 3 p.m. June 25 at Weston Field, 982 Providence Road, Scranton. The event is open to the public free of charge.
The event will feature activities geared toward children while focusing on important safety issues such as the dangers of leaving children in cars during warm weather; the proper way to secure a child in a car seat; bike helmet safety, and fire safety.
Bicycle helmets will be given to the first 100 children in attendance and those who pledge to wear their helmets at all times will be entered into a drawing to win a bicycle.
CHEMS officials will use thermometers to demonstrate how quickly the temperature rises inside a closed car in the summer. Each year, an average of 38 children die from hyperthermia (heatstroke) in hot cars, mainly due to tragic error on the part of caregivers.
Organizers will provide CPR demonstrations to adults while Cell Phone Sally educates children on when and how to dial 911.
The Scranton Fire Department’s “Smoke House” will be on the grounds, along with a fire truck for the children to tour.
Hot dogs and drinks will be served. Activities include balloon sculptures and face-painting.
