Patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis may be candidates for the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) approach. During the TAVR procedure, an expandable valve is delivered via a catheter without a median sternotomy or the use of cardiopulmonary bypass.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is:

• Designed for severe, symptomatic calcified aortic valve stenosis
• A catheter-based minimally invasive procedure that can be an alternative for open-heart surgery
• Performed in a hybrid cath-lab setting
• Usually limited to a hospital stay of one day
