Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
Patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis may be candidates for the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) approach. During the TAVR procedure, an expandable valve is delivered via a catheter without a median sternotomy or the use of cardiopulmonary bypass.
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is:
- Designed for severe, symptomatic calcified aortic valve stenosis
- A catheter-based minimally invasive procedure that can be an alternative for open-heart surgery
- Performed in a hybrid cath-lab setting
- Usually limited to a hospital stay of one day
